Those amazing legs of Carrie Underwood! They are all the rage. How does she workout? What are her secrets?
It seems like only yesterday that Carrie won American Idol. Since her victory in 2005, Carrie Underwood has won 6 Grammys, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 7 American Music Awards and 10 Academy of Country Music Awards.
To rival her musical prowess, Carrie has also dedicated herself to stay fit and eating healthy. Of particular interest is the growing popularity of her legs. They are fit, firm, sleek and toned.
Let’s take a look at some of her eating and workout habits.
Carrie Underwood Diet
Carrie started as a vegetarian. After asking herself “what’s holding me back?”, she decided to make the move and become a vegan. These days Carrie Underwood calls herself a 95% vegan, meaning she is faithful to this eating lifestyle most of the time. Carrie allows herself the occasional excursion.
“I love eating and talking about food. I’ve been a vegetarian for seven years. But after seeing a friend who looked amazing and had recently gone vegan, I thought, What’s holding me back?”
She monitors her diet very closely keeping a food journal on her phone, using the LiveStrong app. One of the benefits of this app is that it allows Carrie to monitor nutrition from most restaurants.
When she does stray, it’s usually for something like a piece of birthday cake. She has vowed to never eat meat again.
“I’ll never eat meat again, because I look and feel better without it, but if I could raise my own cows and chickens and produce my own eggs and cheese, it would be awesome! The food would taste better, because the animals would be happy.”
Carrie usually starts her day with a vanilla smoothie. Ingredients include pea protein, berries, half a banana, almond milk and ice. She also likes to start her day with a tofu scramble (think omelet), which may include anything she has on hand: from spinach, to onions, to peppers and salsa.
Lunch might include a vegan stir fry. For dinner Carrie Underwood enjoys veggie burgers.
“I like broccoli, carrots, broccoli slaw, fake chicken and onions. I eat it with brown rice and season it with Bragg Liquid Aminos, then I’m good to go. It’s a lot of food but not a lot of fat or calories.”
Before performing, she makes sure to avoid starches. She sticks to fruits and veggies and avoids heavy starches and breads.
Carrie Underwood Workout
One of the ways Carrie structures – or randomizes – her workouts is via the use of a deck of playing cards. She will assign a suit to a specific body part, such as hearts for arms and diamonds for legs. Carrie will then split the deck in half and assign a different exercise for each suit, and a different one for each half of the deck.
For example, a sample half-deck exercise format might look like this:
- Hearts – Legs, bodyweight squats
- Diamonds – Arms, push ups
- Clubs – Core, crunches
- Spades – Cardio, treadmill or air boxing
If you draw a 9 of clubs, perform 9 crunches. If you draw a 4 of hearts, perform 4 bodyweight squats. For cardio, a 5 of spades might be 25 seconds of running (5 seconds per card number).
